Nonprofits I have Learned Under
FamilyReach is a New-Jersey and Boston-based nonprofit dedicated to removing the financial barriers standing between a cancer patient and their treatment. Loss of income, out-of-pocket expenses, and socioeconomic factors create disparities in the financial burdens families face. Family Reach delivers financial education, financial coaching, resource navigation, and emergency relief funds to patients and caregivers facing a cancer diagnosis so no family has to choose between their health and their home.
Reflection on Contributions:
I have mainly been assisting with the Cancer Equity Initiative and The LiFT Network. In collaborating with Morgan O’Brien, Family Reach’s Senior Project Manager of Strategic Initiatives, I have helped the evolution of the Cancer Equity Initiative, both in imagining a new vision and critically analyzing our progress.
With help from Brian Morello, Senior Project Manager of The LiFT Network and a family co-founder, we added 134 new potential prospects for The LiFT Network and set up the framework to continue using GuideStar, a beneficial nonprofit technology. Thanks to guidance from Fran Firth, LiFT’s Relationship Manager, we brainstormed ways to continue elevating the user experience of the LiFT Member online community.
The greatest lesson I have learned from this internship is how rewarding it is to be kind. Every team member that I have had the pleasure of working with, learning from, or getting to know on a personal level has reinforced that being a good team player means bringing kindness to the forefront of everything that we do at Family Reach.

Solar Electric Cooking in Ghana (09/2019 - 12/2019)
Worked within an interdisciplinary group of undergraduate students to support the start of SolCook, a company based in Ghana that will provide a cheap, sustainable alternative to cooking with biomass. Our team acted as consultants and researchers on business strategies, marketing, and finance to Cal Poly professor Peter Schwartz who received an international grant to spread this technology. Personally took on task of creating a list of introspective questions to refer back to as the company grows so as to stay ethical and culturally conscious.
